Musquiqui Chihying | g | gaze

gaze is never passive, it has intent-gaze demands attention, it commands authority and stands by itself.
artist Musquiqui Chihying’s examination of the nature of various kinds of gaze(s) reckons that despite how and who ‘does the gazing’, a gaze is a tool for control that envelopes everyone and everywhere.

but it is us who activate and give voice to the act of watching, of seeing, of gazing, it is us who gives it agency.
Musquiqui Chihying uses multimedia such as sound and image to explore the human condition and how it sits within environmental systems. he explores the cultural and social identities constructed through the flow and circulation of audiovisual elements arranged subjectively in contemporary social culture. he is also a regular contributor to art journals and a member of the Taiwanese art group Fuxinghen Studio, and the founder of the Research Lab of Image and Sound.
